Located near Almenara in the Guadiara region of the Costa Del Sol, La Canada is the only public course in the area and a firm favourite of both locals and regular visitors alike.

The first nine holes were designed by Robert Trent Jones, and the back nine, added in 2001, by Dave Thomas.

With superb panoramic views of Valderrama and the Mediterranean Sea, and with a pleasant lack of uphill climbs, La Canada is a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable affair for any golfer.

Don’t be fooled by the thought of it being a public golf course, the quality of this course still shines through when played; especially the last three holes which are firm favourites with the golfer’s that play here.

The 16th tee is a steep downward fairway, funneling down to the open green, so be sure to keep your tee-shot low to carry it to the green.

Miss-hit one on this hole and you’ll end up in the surrounding trees. The next hole is just 135metres in length but this is one not to be fooled by.

Accuracy is a must on this hole, because come up short and you’re in to a lake, and over-cook your shot and your in to the back.

The final hole is the most daunting, at 338 metres long it just seems like any other par 5 on your score card, that is until you step out to hit your tee-shot where you are forced to drive it over 180metres of trees.

This is because the ground drops before you and you are forced to pull out your driver just to make sure you don’t come up short and lose your ball within this bizarre section of trees.

Nether the less, even though this course is open to public is it a must for all keen golfers to have a stab at.
